For more than thirty years, my life has been dedicated to the work of social movement building — organizing, training, and leading efforts to build an inclusive, multiracial democracy. But after decades on the front lines, I found myself profoundly burned out and, more honestly, demoralized. The scale and complexity of the crises we face are immense, and I felt a growing desperation to find a paradigm for transformation that didn’t just feel like a better version of the same failing old playbook.
That search led me to the world of biomimicry.

The vision behind Terradigm
Terradigm is built on a simple conviction: the systems shaping our future need a different design logic.
Too many of today’s institutions still operate from assumptions of extraction, unlimited growth, top-down control, and engineered stability. Those assumptions are poorly matched to a world defined by complexity, interdependence, rapid change, and ecological limits. Nature offers another body of evidence: 3.8 billion years of tested strategies for adaptation, coordination, resilience, resource allocation, and regeneration.
Terradigm exists to bring that intelligence into the design of human systems. It was also built from a desire to bring together elements of my experience that rarely sit in the same place: decades of work inside organizations and social movements, systems transformation, biomimicry, strategy, facilitation, and emerging technology. The vision is to combine those disciplines into something more useful than any one of them could offer alone.
The goal is to make nature’s design strategies accessible, actionable, and practical for the people shaping organizations, communities, institutions, and governance, so they can work with a much larger set of possibilities for how human systems might function.
My goal is threefold.

To make this rigorous science accessible to anyone working to transform our society into a caring, resilient, regenerative ecosystem.

To help changemakers move beyond speculative guesses and start designing our next moves based on winning approaches that have already been stress-tested by life itself.
Terradigm was built at the intersection of systems transformation, biomimicry, technology, and applied organizational strategy.
Members are actively engaged in shaping Terradigm's strategy and stress-testing its assumptions. Several carry academic affiliations at institutions including Stanford University and Arizona State University.
Terradigm's strategy was reviewed in a graduate design lab at Arizona State University's Biomimicry Master's Program. The review tested the business against Life's Principles, drew on literature spanning biomimicry, AI, Indigenous knowledge systems, adaptive governance, and participatory design, and went through several rounds with a senior advisory board.
The project received the maximum possible score within the program's evaluation framework.
