The workshop was designed to assist the municipality in fully understanding the benefits of an integrated spatial information system using GIS, and the requirements in terms of institutional change, organizational development and management capabilities needed to develop and implement such a system effectively. The overall goal is to make Viņa del Mar a pilot site for strategic development of information technology for municipal development in Chile. This workshop was partially funded by the Sustainable Cities Initiative, Industry Canada.
