Terradigm signs with World Bank to Review Susaintable Land Management in Senegal
September 8th, 2007
On March 23, 2006 Terradigm / Centre for Property Studies signed an agreement with the World Bank to review and analyze sustainable land management practices in Senegal.
The project was lead by Franklin Cardy and included Julian Dumanski, Christopher Gibbs, Paul Egli, Veronica McGinn and Tropica Consultants of Senegal
The assignment was conducted through both desk reviews and considerable in-country analytical work and extensive consultations with stake holders on the ground. Consultations involved different stakeholders at different levels and in different sectors. To ensure that the Review is well targeted, tuned to local realities, and encourages country ownership of the outputs, Tropica Environmental Consultants, leading environmental consultants in Senegal, was retained as a key part of our team. They assumed the main responsibility for preparing the Diagnostic report and played a substantial role throughout the process of preparing and reviewing the drafts of the Options Report. They ensured widest possible involvement of local stakeholders and partners.
The work was guided by the approach developed under TerrAfrica, including close consultation and synergies with other stakeholders, starting with TerrAfrica partners. In Senegal, the consultant worked closely with stakeholders, including the UNCCD focal point, the Global Mechanism of the UNCCD, UNCCD Secretariat, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Planning and Sustainable Development and other relevant ministries, ISRA (l’Institut Sénégalais de Recherche Agricole), Le DAPS (Direction de l’Analyse, de la Prévision et des Statistiques, (Ministère de l’agriculture et de l’Hydraulique), Le CSE (Centre de Suivi Ecologique), the LADA Project Team, and other TerrAfrica partners (see www.terrafrica.org).
