CPS- CLRDP: AUCC Sponsored Team Project

July 6th, 2006

The team proposal, submitted under the auspices of the UNB Centre for Property Studies, and developed by CPS member / Professor of Law John McEvoy, was recommended for funding by a selection committee of the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC) with the support of the UNB International Relations Office.

Third year law students: Sarah Mackay, Paul Martin, and Melissa Young, and Professor John McEvoy have received grants to be hosted by the CLRDP and to participate in their work with traditional communities. The goal of this work is to aid selected communities to participate effectively in South Africa’s Land Reform, in accordance with related legislation, with a particular focus on the Communal Land rights Act, 2004 (CLaRA).

The student interns will organize and participate in community information sessions on land reform, particularly in relation to CLaRA. On a topic approved by Professor McEvoy, the students will undertake a major independent legal writing programme related to their work during the internship.

The above individual and team internships are international development opportunities provided by the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada’s (AUCC) and the Canada Corps University Partnership Programme (CCUPP)
