The Centre was established in recognition of the fact that property issues are multidisciplinary and cross cutting, and cannot be slotted into any one particular sector.

The Centre fulfills two primary roles:

1) as a university Centre for the development of educational and
capacity building programs in all aspects of land administration; and

2) as the administrative hub of Terradigm, a registered cluster of private
sector, government and academic organizations and agencies that work both
nationally and internationally in land administration (see Terradigm flyer).

Key Products and Services

The Centre for Property Studies has responsibility for two major educational or capacity building programs.

1. The Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) Degree in Policy Studies with specialization in People, Property, and Alternate Dispute Resolution. This is a 12 to 16 month interdisciplinary degree comprised of core (required) and elective courses plus either a research thesis or an internship. It is designed primarily for professionals looking to upgrade their knowledge and skills.

2. A Certificate program in organizational analysis, design and performance directed towards the building of an effective land administration system. This program utilizes case-based analysis and problem-based design along with self-learning content modules and an evaluation process. This program is delivered in association with The Department of Geodesy and Geomatics Engineering and the College of Extended Learning at UNB, and Terradigm.

Successful completion should enable a candidate to:

  • Identify and define the basic components and principles for developing, designing and operating a land administration system;

  • Analyze the business environment of a land administration organization.

  • Conduct a risk assessment and analysis of the probability of success or failure based on clearly defined principles and factors.

  • Design corrective action to mitigate or eliminate the sources of risk and elements of failure.
